Key Bible Passage(s):
Matt.10:38-39
Tier 1:
There is really one point to the material in this session: the idea of slowing down to get to know God. This seems to be one of the key ideas for us to learn from the persecuted Church. The sense of enforced slowness, the fact that Churches can’t be so busy with ministries and outreach projects, the experience of leaders whoa re imprisoned, all create a very uncluttered feel to Church. And into htat space comes the opportunity to know God in ways that might seem incredible to the Church in the UK.
Tier 2:
The session goes on to challenge some of the assumptions about how we live life in a Western context. We can easily assume a right to fulfil our potential and to live a ‘productive’ life. The experienc eof hte persecuted Church, and the teaching of Jesus, suggest that might not sit easily with God’s vision for our life.
The plan would be to have a short teaching session, followed by prayer, or perhaps a short ceremony for those who are finishing DTP. …and then a meal together.
Everything that had given me meaning as a Christian worker had been taken away from me. I had nothing to do. Nothing to do except get to know God. And that was the greatest relationship I have ever known. But the cell was the means.

Discussion Group:
The group time in this session gives us a chance to engage with Wong MIng Dao’s question:
How do you walk with God (not how should you... but how do you?)
What does it even mean to walk with God?
there is no homework for this session.
